Near & dear

Since we're revolutionizing... I thought I'd post something very near & dear to my heart: NOG screening this Friday- who's coming?

I organized this event after much prompting from my burner friends who wanted to see my work & am going to great ends to make it an enjoyable evening for everyone. - Including DJ/sound equipment favors to get our dance on afterward. Some of the cast & crew will be present for my family (you) to meet, but these folks have already seen the finished product years ago at other screenings.

The point is: this is for YOU to share in another world - before there was a "maemae"... When I was still (quite substantially) simply "mae".

Event details are posted both here on Tribe & on FB. This Friday 10/30, doors open @ 8:00. Screening starts @ 9:00. $15 gets you in... Plus refreshments, swag, and DJ action after the presentation. We plan to go until 2:00 but knowing us, it'll go til it goes... :)

I know it's the night before Halloween & all... But that makes it perfect timing - since "Nog" is a character-study surrounding the holidays.

Prior to the feature, we'll also showcase my short film "Ruminating Nietzche" along with our hostess Tiger Moon's short "Window Pain". There will be a very brief intermission between the shorts & the feature presentation which is 90 minutes runtime.

If that isn't enough... Merchandise will be on display for sale - Copies of my book "Existentialist Thoughts on Going Mad" along with Tiger's CD "Lyric". They actually go well together - collect the whole set!

This in an attempt to show off some unknown talent, to bridge 2 amazingly gifted worlds & for once, to try and score some dough from seriously hard-earned art - all of which would be nice.

Staples of the Staples, you are my chosen family. And in true family fashion, I'm playing the guilt card here - cuz it was from you that this idea got born for this event. I assure you that you won't regret the commitment to attend - Not only can I throw a very decent event myself having booked venues like KingKing & Spiderclub successfully, but I wrote & directed some interesting stuff. Come see for yourself...

Our dear friend Quest has asked us to convey a message about his current status. He doesn't want to go into much detail but he suffered a back injury last week that ultimately required hospitilization. He had an MRI Monday which indicated a 7 mm herniation at the L5-S1 level. He is under evaluation as to what the next course of treatment will be. He says he does not want visitors or calls yet and as soon as he does we will let everyone know. He is OK!! he just wanted you all to know what was going on and to send loving healing thoughts his way! We will keep you updated and what his needs and requests will be in the coming days..

Can I ask a favor of those going to the Burn?

Okay, so I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't be going to the Burn... I'm walking again! That's good enough for me!!! On the other hand, it's harder for me to reconcile my biggest disappointment regarding having to miss. My best friend in the whole world is coming to the Playa this year for her virgin Burn and I won't be there to see the smile on her face, give her the biggest hug ever and tell her "Welcome Home!"

SO HERE'S THE FAVOR I'D LIKE TO ASK: What I would dearly like to arrange, since I can't be there to do it myself, is to have as many friends as I can possibly recruit, go to her camp, alone or in smallish groups, hopefully at different times throughout the week, and give her that giant hug and tell her "Welcome Home!" for me. If she's not there, maybe you can hug one or her campmates so they can pass it on to her (just tell them not to spill the beans that there will be more hugs coming her way :) )

IF YOU CAN HELP: she is Rachelle, she's from Austin, TX and she's camping with Lava Lounge, who are the bar that is next to, and there for The Temple Builders (that's right, the ones who build "The Temple"), located at 2:00 and Jurassic. She's scheduled to arrive by noonish on Monday 8/31, which is probably a pretty reliable eta, since she's flying in to Reno the day before. Hello Staples!!

Thank you all for the mass quantities of love and good vibes sent my way over these last several difficult weeks! It made a huge difference! I am so grateful to my wonderful friends who have volunteered to check in on me twice a day, every day since I came home from the hospital and help me with the things I can't do. I am truly touched and humbled. And of course, giant thanks to my angels, Johnny and Mo, who have coordinated my helpers and have been right there for me through this whole ordeal.

I've been home for 6 days now and I'm doing great! I'm still pain-free and I continue to get stronger, although I'm still limited in what I can do and I must be very careful not to re-injure myself. Nonetheless, I am so happy to be home!! After 19 days in the hospital, unable to walk, simple things like walking in the fresh air or sleeping in my own bed seem like a miracle. Yes, I will miss the Burn, and although I'm very disappointed, I can accept it. It seems like a small price for me to pay, considering that I will instead be regaining to the capacity to manage my day-to-day life. The doc says I should be back to my good ole dancin' self in 6-8 weeks!

QUEST RECOVERY HELP!!!!

Quest tried to post this last night but Tribe was still down so I am redoing it this morning, well at least as far as he got writing!!

Hey Johnny/Mo, Well tribe is still down, so here here's my blog:

I just thought I'd send out an update. I have been given a couple of epidural injectons over the last 10 days or so, the hope being that they would relieve the pain sufficiently for me to walk well enough to go home. Unfortunately (and not unexpectedly), they have not. So I've been transferred to Cedars-Sinai and I'm scheduled for surgery to get me fixed up on Tuesday. Thank goodness! I've been in the hospital over two weeks already and I'm really ready for this part of the story to be over and to get on to the recovery part. I've been fortunate enough to have a really great and well known surgeon, the head of the spine center here, accept me as his patient. I am confident that I'm in good hands and that I could not ask to have a better team behind me.

I am told that I'll be able to go home on Wednesday and that I'll be far more comfortable than I am now. They also say that I should be more or less fully recovered in about six weeks. Other than that, I'm still a little in the dark as to what exactly I may be able to do and not do after I come home, and for how long. I do know that at least at first, I won't be able to lift anything heavier than a coffee cup.

So here is the deal. We will help him out on Wed when he gets home and Johnny will stay the night. His recovery will progress quickly if he has the help so he isn't tempted to do too much himself. He will probably be ok with someone in the morning to help with breakfast and early evening for dinner and to make sure he has enough fluids to drink throughout the day that are close by since he won't be able to carry anything. Also he will probably need some ice/heat packs etc.. We will be doing the initial grocery shopping but that will have to be an onging basis depending on what he uses up! Rides to doctor appointments ect. chores, cleaning etc...

Quest has told us of a few of you that have offered to help. I will send this out to individual emails if I have them! If any of you read this please get back to BOTH Johnny and I at our regular emails!

For those out on the Playa this year, I just wanted to throw out an invite to come to Camp Transmorphagon and celebrate with May and I. We are taking the plunge and gettin' hitched out there this year, on Friday around 6:30pmish... It's been an awesome journey for us, and the love we've gotten from all the Staples has been huge for us. We'd love to see you all out there if you're able to come by, then we're throwing a BIg time party in camp where we've lined up 3 Bands, Including Local Fav DMT, and some Killer DJ's including DJ Hooni and Jacques the Ripper. So I hope to see you all out there on the Playa. We love you guys and your presence would make our day that much more special!!!

What I've been up to :(

I thought I'd repost my blog from last night here for those of you who may have missed it:

Well, as some of you have heard, I've really done it this time. My back is toast. To make a long story short, I blew it out big time over the last couple of weeks and ended up in the hospital last Saturday when the pain got so bad that I was no longer able to walk. Let's just say that I now have a much more intimate understanding of the word "agony". So here I am, five days later, still in the hospital, still can't walk... They gave me an injection in my spine yesterday that is supposed to get me back into the realm of being able to hobble around and come home from the hospital by tomorrow, but there's no guarentee, in fact, the consensus seems to be that it's more likely that I will attain a more intimate understanding of the word "surgery" in the near to not-so-distant future. Please be advised that I am all about proving my over-paid prognosticators wrong and will do all in my power to embarrass them. :)

Anyway, my spirits are good, and I'm fighting a good fight, but I am contemplating the next stage of this journey. If I am able to come home tomorrow or in the near future, it may be many weeks before I am able to do many of the simple and casual tasks of daily life that I have until now taken for granted. And so to the point, even though you are collectively the kindest souls I've ever known and although it's still very hard for me to ask, I'm gonna need a little help. I'm not quite sure yet what exactly will be entailed, but Johnny and Mo (Molektra) on my friends list have graciously offered to help me coordinate things.

Well, it's getting late and these good hospital drugs are kicking in so I'd better close for now. Thanks you guys, wish me luck!

Had a blast at Elysium...

...and I thought it appropriate to thank everyone again for the amazing time. The experience is still sinking in, but the more I think about it and tell friends of mine about how great the experience was, the more I realize it was just an overwhelming surge of good people. It makes me pretty sure that I'll be seeing you guys all again at some point in the future.

Thanks for welcoming me so warmly into your camping area/tribe/etc. and I am definitely looking forward to sharing another experience. You guys rock. :)

Lightning Temple is organizing a day and night (and possibly staying over if you're an organizer) at some GORGEOUS land near Simi Valley. Jesse and others are spinning, Greensector is helping out with art along with Lightning Temple and other people. If you're thinking you can't get far out of town you're welcome to join us here for the weekend. Less than 75 people will be allowed to stay over and this is not a loud festival weekend....this is time with family with some great music thrown in for fun!

So, Dore and I have been attending a bunch of events with his BM crew, the Tikifuckos (Fucko means LOVE!) and they've been really fun I've been wanting to share them with you all, but I've felt it inappropriate to invite other people to events I was not directly involved with organizing. Maybe you understand???

As you all know (or should know), going camping over Memorial weekend can be a real Bitch due to every nice campground being booked almost a year in advance; over crowding & a traffic mess in and out of town.... and these are just a few examples of Memorial weekend camping!

With that said, the Beyond Basecamp group has been given the opportunity to experience a very unique Basecamp location/event "Escape to Mt. Waterman ".

At "Escape to Mt. Waterman ", we'll be escaping your average camping crowds and rules that normal campgrounds provide. What makes this an escape?, Everyone will be taking a Chair Lift up to our weekend Basecamp, away from everyone and everything.

Yes you can still bring all your normal camping gear like your big tents, futons, air mattress (we'll have power up there for air pumps), pillows, ice coolers, two burner stoves, camp chairs, whatever you normally take on a camping trip . All your gear will be hauled up for you in our trucks and vans while you enjoy an awesome chair lift ride up to our Basecamp.

Make note that you can also hike or Backpack up if you'd like, it's 2 1/2 miles to the top.

Mt. Waterman provides us with clean rest-rooms, lots of room for everyone and your big tents, trees for shade, plus a lodge for our night time festivities/dance floor. Normally it's sunny and warm up on Waterman over Memorial weekend!

Mt. Waterman is located in our back yard - the Angeles National Forest , a 90 minute drive from LA. (little gas and no traffic) not too far past Mt. Wilson . One of the best things about us using this location as our Basecamp "we'll be the only ones up there", so we can go all night for those of you party people who can keep up with DJ Swerve and company.

O.C. Burner Campout!!!!

I know that this is a little last minute, but just in case any of you Staples were undecided about what to do on the weekend of the 24th-26th, some of our very good Staple friends in the O. C. are having a little camp out near Victorville in the middle of nowhere. I'm going and it'll be my very first campout since Elysium last year so I am excited! Anyone want to join me? Oh and I'm told that "No friggin' kiddie ravers are allowed!" Hehe. Here's the deets:

There has been some changes in the event rules so please take your time to read through them carefully! This is our family and we want to make sure that we are all on board!

This is a NO GLASS event! Please bring all your supplies in plastic, metal or wood containers. La Jolla Indian reservation PROHIBITS any glass on premises.
This year we are providing camping in area 6 as well as in area 7. Yes, that’s right, in lieu of so many vehicles at the event last year and our desire to create an organic spacious environment no car parking will be allowed in Camping area 7 with the exception of service, staff, and performers vehicles. Parking for those vehicles must be prearranged with Dr. Lust PRIOR to the event. Car-camping and car parking will be available in Camping Area 6 with no restrictions.
We are adding a lot more art installations and community space in area 7 this year so we ask you to please comply with this new policy. Shuttle for taking your camping gear will be provided.

Lucent L'amour - Who's Going?

Cupid's fast approaching for the annual Lucent L'amour gathering and I'm just curious who is going.

I remember last year waiting in line for hours upon hours because I didn't purchase an advance ticket . . . silly me thinking I could just walk up, pay at the door and Voila! ~ I'm in like flint (DOH!) Not this year! Thought about doing the "Go Big Ticket" for $100 smackaroos with the perks including private indoor restrooms, but honestly I don't mind waiting in line for a porta-potty - ya kinda meet the coolest peeps while waiting, and that's just 1/4th of the fun ;)

I've got my $40 tix and can't wait to be there. Who else??????

I am so touched by all of the love and healing energy that has been beamed my way in these past few days and wanted to personally thank all of ya'lls myself for the support and love!

JOHNNY HOME NOW!

Ok so now we have traded the beeping machines, the laughing nurses and the screaming elderly patient for barking dogs, screaching tires and mexican banda music... Sigh it's nice to be home:)
He is exhaused poor boy. The trip in the car was excruciating and we had to stop at the phramacy to pick up his meds. Of course the doggie greeting although welcome was quite exhausting!
Things have settled for now and I am going grocery shopping. Ty for all the well wishes, Tomorrow would be a good time for more calls. he overdid it yesterday...

Johnny Update, Thursday

Last night was a rough one for Johnny, didn't get much sleep due to the pain! Not enough meds!!!

PLEASE don't go for a visit today!! Friday might be better, Johnny says.

Know that he's trying to catch up on sleep and they are bothering him with this and that medical check and procedure, like fitting for a brace - so probably phone calls would be better on Friday too.

Slinky Malinki in hospital

So, Lost, or Charles, a.k.a. Slinky Malinki, is in the hospital today. He went in yesterday. It is doubly sad because it’s his birthday today as well. He had a bit of a fire breathing accident two nights ago. He inhaled some of the kerosene which affected his lungs. They plan to keep him for a few days. You can call him if you want. The surgery went very well, it was delayed and went long - done around 1:30. He's in recovery now.
Mo will probably have more updates when she gets home and rests a bit.

JOHNNY'S ACHING BACK!

As most of you know, Johnny has been in various amounts of discomfort, off and on, up and down due to severe spinal stenosis and lumbar instability since stepping in a pothole last May while walking the dogs.. Turns out the problem had been there for quite sometime, the jolt of the misstep is what triggered the nerve compression.
Anyway, after months of waiting to see various doctors due to HMO authorizations and then waiting to get appointments we finally found the doctor we feel is best for this situation. And please don't post about trying alternative therapies.... He has already done all of that, acupuncture, eastern herbs and patches, cold therapy, chiro, spinal decompression, stretching, walking, etc.... Back and forth for MRIs and xrays... Cortisone in the hip joint which was worthless since that wasn't the problem.. Anyway finally got to the Neurosurgeon who spent 45-60 minutes with us showing us the MRI on a laptop and explained everything in detail without being condescending.

On wednesday Jan 21 he will be having what is called PLIF surgery. In case one is interested here is a link.

He will be at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia for 3-5 days..
Of course the day of surgery he will be out of it so I ask no phone calls until I post it is ok. At that time he will welcome and need to be cheered up!! Also please don't send flowers as we won't be able to transport them ! If you want to give him something: books, dvd's, or some kind of craft project that he can do easily while recovering at home would be nice.... Beer and Booze can come later!

He will be at PLUMP this saturday so those of you attending can wish him the best for next week and the long recovery to come.. It is actually a blessing he is unemployed at this time!

in celebration of my sister's big 4-0, we'll be bringing extra cheer to our next PLUMP!

sister janine is coming to town for a week to spend QT with her lil sis... our mission: to spoil her with love while she's here.

your job as PLUMP devotees is to get her to dance! janine usually watches me from the sidelines... but who can get her booty shakin' on the dancefloor?!

i'll be bringing plenty of champagne to share... it's also hippiechick's birthday, as well... so we can all whoop it up together.

I just wanted to introduce myself...Some of you I know already, some I've met, and some I haven't. I met Johnny, Molektra , and K-Bunny in a comfort inn 18 months ago on the way back from the Burn, and getting to know this crowd has been awesome.
